(PTS, 3/03/08) El dirigente nacional del Partido de los Trabajadores
Socialistas (PTS) Christian Castillo denunció que “la masacre de Raúl
Reyes y otros 16 guerrilleros de las FARC por parte del Ejército
Colombiano, realizada violando el territorio nacional ecuatoriano,
constituye una clara provocación del gobierno de Uribe que debe ser
enérgicamente repudiada. El método utilizado para el asesinato de Reyes, quien era el encargado de las gestiones de las FARC con distintos estados de la región y de la Unión Europea, recuerda acciones similares practicadas por Israel contra dirigentes y activistas palestinos y de acuerdo a la doctrina de la ‘guerra preventiva’ practicada por EE.UU. Es claro que Uribe contó cuanto menos con el apoyo tecnológico y logístico del gobierno de Bush para realizar esta masacre. Lo que busca es un aplastamiento y rendición incondicional de la guerrilla”.

Castillo señaló también que “no es casual que este hecho se produjo
poco después de una nueva liberación unilateral de rehenes por parte de las FARC, cuestión que había fortalecido la presión internacional al
gobierno colombiano por acceder al ‘canje humanitario’ que reclama la
guerrilla. El gobierno de Uribe, cuyos lazos con los paramilitares y el
narcotráfico se evidencian permanentemente, actuó también en beneficio de los intereses de Bush, que durante su gobierno incrementó los fondos destinados al nefasto ‘Plan Colombia’. Colombia es un país que los yankies han armado hasta los dientes: cuenta con alrededor de 400.000 efectivos entre policías y tropas del ejército, de la fuerza aérea e infantes de marina, mientras Venezuela, por ejemplo, no llega a un total de 50.000”.

El dirigente del PTS también dijo que “la justificación por parte de Uribe de la entrada de tropas colombianas en territorio ecuatoriano sienta un precedente de enorme gravedad, ya que legitima la presencia de tropas colombianas en territorio extranjero, en la misma línea que el gobierno de Bush lo hizo con la detención de prisioneros en distintos países. En medio de una fuerte polarización política en la región, con la ruptura de relaciones entre Ecuador y Colombia y la expulsión del embajador colombiano de Venezuela así como el cierre de fronteras entre estos países y movilización de tropas, es probable que los gobiernos de Brasil y Argentina, bajo la apariencia de una ‘mediación’, jueguen el papel de evitar una condena generalizada al gobierno de Uribe. No hay que olvidarse que el gobierno de Kirchner considera a las FARC una ‘organización terrorista’ en sintonía con lo reclamado por Bush y que el MERCOSUR viene de firmar un ‘acuerdo de libre comercio’ con Israel, el gendarme de los yankies en Medio Oriente.

El PTS defiende el derecho de Venezuela y Ecuador a defenderse frente a la agresión del gobierno colombiano y del imperialismo yanky y exige el reconocimiento de las FARC como fuerza beligerante. Exigimos también la ruptura de relaciones de Argentina con el gobierno de Uribe. Llamamos a su vez a desarrollar la movilización internacional de los trabajadores y de todos los oprimidos del continente para repudiar la masacre y enfrentar la agresión de Uribe y de Bush”.

Christian Castillo: "The PTS condemns Uribe’s provocation and demands recognition of the FARC as a belligerent force"

(PTS 3/03/2008) Christian Castillo, national leader of the Partido de
Trabajadores Socialistas (PTS) charged that "the massacre of Raúl
Reyes and 16 other fighters of the FARC by the Colombian Army, carried
out by violating Ecuadorian national territory, constitutes an obvious
provocation by the Uribe government that should be energetically
condemned. The method used for the murder of Reyes, who was
responsible for negotiations of the FARC with different states of the
region and of the European Union, recalls similar actions performed by
Israel against Palestinian leaders and activists, in accordance with
the doctrine of ’preventive war’ practiced by the US. It is clear that
Uribe had at least technological and logistical support from the Bush
administration to carry out this massacre. What he seeks is the
crushing of the guerrillas and their unconditional surrender.

Castillo also indicated that "it is not by chance that this action
occured shortly after another unilateral release of hostages by the
FARC, a matter that has increased international pressure on the
Colombian government to agree to the humanitarian exchange' that the guerrillas are demanding. Uribe's government, whose ties to the paramilitaries and drug trafficking have been proven once and for all, also acted to benefit the interests of Bush, who, during his administration, has increased the funds intended for the deadlyPlan
Colombia.’ Colombia is a country that the US has armed to the teeth:
it has around 400,000 soldiers, between police and troops of the Army,
Air Force and Marines, while Venezuela, for instance, does not even
have a total of 50,000."

The PTS leader also said that "Uribe’s justification for Colombian
troops’ entering Ecuadorian territory establishes an extremely serious
precedent, since it legitimizes the presence of Colombian troops on
foreign territory, in the same way the Bush administration did with
detention of prisoners in different countries. Amid a serious
political polarization in the region, with the breaking-off of
relations between Ecuador and Colombia, and the expulsion of the
Colombian ambassador from Venezuela, as well as the closing of the
borders between these countries and mobilization of troops, it is
likely that the governments of Brazil and Argentina, under the
appearance of "mediation," will play the role of preventing widespread
condemnation of the Uribe government. We must not forget that
Kirchner’s government considers the FARC to be a ’terrorist
organization’ in tune with what Bush demands, and that MERCOSUR has
just signed a free trade agreement with Israel, the gendarme of the US
in the Middle East.

"The PTS defends the right of Venezuela and Ecuador to defend
themselves against aggression by the Colombian government and US
imperialism, and demands recognition of the FARC as a belligerent
force. We call for developing the international mobilization of the
workers and of all the oppressed of the continent to condemn the
massacre and confront aggression by Uribe and Bush."
